Ultrasonic Exfoliation or Microdermabrasion?

Ultrasonic Exfoliation or Microdermabrasion?

I’m often asked why I don’t offer microdermabrasion anymore in my studio. The reason is this, over the years I have seen microdermabrasion do more harm than good. Microdermabrasion became immensely popular in the 90’s and while it is an effective means of professional exfoliation, it really it only suitable for thicker skin types.

I have seen it cause irritation, thinned skin, broken capillaries, and hyperpigmentation in a misguided effort to scrub away aging and skin issues. Due to its huge popularity it has been marketed as a micacle treatment for everything from pigmentation to acne. There is more and more studies being done that confirm that excess exfoliation and irritation can actually accelarate aging in the skin. I’m sure you can see that I don’t want to be a part of something like that.

I have opted instead for a more effective, longer lasting alternative. ULTRASONIC EXFOLIATION. I love my ultrasonic spatula. Ultrasonic exfoliation is a simple, painless, safe way to deliver thourough cleansing and exfoliation to ALL skintypes. Theres no risk of downtime, irritation or damage and it leaves my clients with beautiful glowing skin.

How does ultrasonic exfoliation work?

After a thorough cleanse, skin analysis, and enzyme exfoliation a thin layer of toner is applied to the surface of the skin. The spatula is gently glided across the skin and the ultrasonic vibrations (28, 000 vibrations per second) dislodges debris, loosens impacted blackheads and retexturizes your skin. The exfoliation phase removes 20% to 50% of the “stratum corneum” — the outer layer of the skin. Ultrasonic vibrations spin the water molecules at high frequency causing cavitation — a brief phase change in the water molecule. Cavitation gently removes the dead surface skin cells and cleans out follicles without the irritation and inflammation that is sometimes associated with mechanical methods.

This simple, yet effective tool has the added benefit of being able to infuse concentrated serums deeply into the skin. Normally, large molecules cannot penetrate the skin to provide the deep medication that skin often needs.  Ultrasound makes that penetration possible — with a process called “sonophoresis.” This improves skin nutrition, cell regeneration, moisture retention and wound healing leaving your with skin that is revitalized from within. Ultrasonic spatulas can breathe new life into aging tired skin by encouraging collagen synthesis and stimulating blood flow.

Whether you have acne, rosacea, pigmentation, or sensitized skin, ultrasonic exfoliation is a treatment that is fully customizeable to your individual skin needs and delivers immediate results that last. You will love it and your friends will notice the difference!
